Among the archive’s unique documentation are videos shot by Anton Perich of Matuschka in the mid 70s. Matuschka worked alongside Anton in many capacities: model, editor, saleswoman, and collaborator. These videos--- including invoices, sales pitches, contracts photographs, letters, and promotional materials--- trace the progression of cable TV from the early days of underground late night t TV and mark the beginning of a new era. In the 1970s, cable TV was a new technology, and video was transmitted via coaxial cable. The Downtown Pop Underground In the 1970s ignited a new era of Public Access on cable TV and was an exciting time for writers, performers and video artists alike.Anton Perich—who documented the scenes at Max’s Kansas City and the Mercer Art Center with his Super 8 film and Portapak video camera—also began making his own public access show, Anton Perich Presents, which debuted in January 1973. Mr. Perich frequently filmed Matuschka, and broadcasts featuring her interviews at Bonwit Teller, catwalks and fittings at the Chelsea Hotel (with R. Couri Hay, Charles James, Bill Cunningham and Homer Layne) have been aired on Cable TV--- Channel J--- since the 70s. Extensive video and still footage of Matuschka working with Charles James, Frosty Myers, and John Chamberlain, is available on request thru the estate of Anton Perich.Aside from extensive black and white footage shot by Mr. Perich in the 70s, numerous musical tapes a.k.a . MTV style were made in the 80s of Matuschka and her band, when she went by the name of Jersey Jo. The Dutch documentary film maker, Paul Cohen shot over 20 hours of Matuschka in 1991 for his feature film, “Part-Time God” which captured her plight with breast cancer to becoming a major player in the breast cancer movement of the early 90s.From Germany, Thomas Halaczinsky- who first contacted Matuschka for the Arte Cultural Channel later filmed the artist in 2006 for a film they planned on producing. A vast amount of international TV News program and documentaries featuring Matuschka in various locations and situations are also available including B-Roll from many TV stations. The Spanish photographer, Jesus Jimenz last videotaped Matuschka in 2025. These unique recordings, along with the artist’s artwork throughout the decades, would provide unique material for a book and movie about Matuschka and provides an historical glimpse of what it was like to be involved in the New york scene of the last century.
